What Procedures Comprise A Mommy Makeover
Pregnancy takes a toll on the body, and some women find it quite difficult to get their pre-baby figure back with diet and exercise alone. A mommy makeover is a cosmetic surgical treatment designed to correct issues commonly experienced after pregnancy, such as sagging breasts, excess fat in the arms, buttocks, and abdomen, and excess or sagging skin in the stomach area. The procedure utilizes liposuction, abdominoplasty, and breast augmentation, and it can help moms feel confident about their appearance once again.
Liposuction
Liposuction is used to remove stubborn, localized fat deposits which often develop during pregnancy in the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and arms. Liposuction involves a small incision through which excess fat is suctioned out of the body. Final results after liposuction are visible within 3 to 6 months.
Abdominoplasty
The abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck as it is often called, removes the stretched-out, excess skin that sometimes occurs after a large single pregnancy or several pregnancies. The abdominal muscles are also tightened during this procedure to reduce lower tummy bulge. Some stretch marks may also be removed by the abdominoplasty.
Breast Augmentation
Breasts gain volume during pregnancy and nursing, and this extra weight can cause them to sag. When the breasts eventually lose volume, some women notice that they also have excess skin. The breast augmentation procedure utilizes saline or silicone implants to restore volume and projection to the breasts. If excess skin is severe, a breast lift may also be performed. Incisions for the procedure are placed around the edge of the areola, or along the breast crease so that scarring is as inconspicuous as possible.
Recovery Time
Swelling after a mommy makeover typically subsides within 2 to 4 weeks, and incision lines continue to fade for up to a year. To maintain the results of your mommy makeover, a healthy diet and regular exercise is recommended.
